Algeria has called in French Ambassador Stéphane Romatet to express its disapproval over what it described as "hostile plans" by the French intelligence service, according to Algerian media.
Romatet was summoned to the Foreign Ministry last week to address allegations that French intelligence was involved in efforts to destabilize Algeria, as reported by the state-run newspaper El Moudjahid.
The newspaper stated that the reprimand came after disclosures revealing that the French intelligence service had enlisted former Algerian militants to destabilize the country.
Algerian authorities warned the French diplomat that such actions would not go unchallenged, emphasizing that the country would not tolerate any attacks on its sovereignty, according to the report.
There has been no official comment from France regarding the allegations.
