Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov landed in North Korea, marking another step in the growing strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in North Korea on Friday, North Korea's state media KCNA said on Saturday. He arrived in the eastern coastal city of Wonsan after attending the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting in Malaysia. Wonsan, known for its military facilities and a newly opened resort, has hosted several key events tied to North Korea's defence operations.

This visit follows the signing of a mutual defence pact between the two countries and signals continued high-level engagement. According to South Korean intelligence, Pyongyang is expected to send even more troops to assist Russia in Ukraine after already dispatching over 10,000 soldiers. Additionally, 6,000 North Korean military engineers and builders are set to help rebuild infrastructure in Russia's war-damaged Kursk region.

Russian media reported that after his North Korea trip, Lavrov will head to China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
