Brazilian President Lula da Silva is recovering after successful surgery in São Paulo to treat a brain haemorrhage linked to a fall at home in October, doctors have confirmed.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has successfully undergone surgery in São Paulo to address a brain haemorrhage caused by a fall at his home in October, according to a medical statement released by the government on Tuesday.

The 79-year-old leader is reported to be in good condition and is under observation in the intensive care unit.

An MRI scan conducted in Brasília on Monday evening, after Lula experienced a headache, revealed the presence of an intracranial haemorrhage. He was subsequently transferred to the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo for the procedure.

However, the injury led to the cancellation of a planned visit to Russia for the BRICS summit in Kazan, following medical advice to avoid long-haul flights temporarily.

Labour Minister Luiz Marinho was among the first politicians to express his wishes for President Lula’s swift and complete recovery on the social media platform X.
