President Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Iran’s newly appointed ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilou, highlighting the strengthening of Azerbaijan-Iran relations and discussing broad prospects for cooperation across multiple sectors.
Following the formal ceremony, the president and the ambassador held a detailed conversation on the state and future of bilateral relations.
President Ilham Aliyev highlighted his recent call with President of Iran and praised Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Azerbaijan as a key step that strengthened bilateral ties. He noted that Pezeshkian’s statements and views were met with positive reception by the Azerbaijani public.
The president emphasized that Azerbaijan was among the first countries to publicly express its position regarding the recent tensions between Iran and Israel, condemning the escalation and offering condolences for the Iranian citizens who lost their lives. Ilham Aliyev criticized certain groups and media outlets spreading falsehoods aimed at undermining Azerbaijan-Iran relations, dismissing such claims as baseless.
Ambassador Demirchilou underlined that Iran’s highest leadership places great importance on developing close relations with Azerbaijan. The ambassador expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s principled and firm stance during the recent regional tensions and affirmed Iran’s confidence that Azerbaijani territory will never be used against it.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in political, economic, trade, cultural, and humanitarian areas, including progress on the North-South transport corridor and the Araz River bridge connecting Aghband and Kelale.
