Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR has signed a 10-year natural gas supply deal with Germany’s state-owned SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe), the companies announced on Tuesday.
Deliveries are set to begin this year and will gradually increase to 15 terawatt-hours (TWh) annually — roughly 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas.
The agreement will support production and infrastructure investments, including gas compressors, and aims to expand pipeline capacity to Europe. Both sides say the deal will help improve energy security and diversify supply across the continent.
SEFE CEO Egbert Laege called the deal a “new route for significant gas volumes to reach Europe,” strengthening ties between Germany and Azerbaijan and reinforcing supply security.
SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf described the agreement as a “milestone” in Azerbaijan’s efforts to support European energy needs. He said SOCAR is committed to stable supplies and further investment in infrastructure.
