Marvel Studios used its return to San Diego Comic-Con to reveal several major projects, including a new Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling and the long-awaited Black Panther 3.
The announcements came during the studio's Hall H presentation on Saturday (25 July), where Marvel also gave fans an exclusive first look at Avengers: Doomsday.
Black Panther 3 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 15 December 2028. The film will introduce British actor David Jonsson as a new T'Challa, the son of the original Black Panther, whose father was portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman.
A release window for Ghost Rider was also confirmed for 2028, although Marvel has yet to announce an exact date.
Fans were caught off guard when Gosling walked on stage to officially unveil Ghost Rider.
"Is this really happening?" the actor asked the audience.
He also praised director Shawn Levy, saying, "If we're going to do this, there's only one director."
Levy, whose previous Marvel success includes Deadpool & Wolverine, joined Gosling on stage before teasing the release.
"We'll see you in 2028," he said.
Director Ryan Coogler later appeared alongside returning cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke to discuss the next instalment in the Black Panther series.
Jonsson, who steps into one of Marvel's most significant roles, said he wanted the film to speak for itself.
"I want the screen to do the talking. But believe me, the honour is entirely mine."
The casting marks a new era for the franchise following Boseman's death in 2020.
Marvel also showed exclusive footage from Avengers: Doomsday, its next major ensemble film after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The teaser featured Doctor Doom overpowering the Avengers and commanding an army of Sentinels, the giant mutant-hunting robots familiar to fans of the X-Men comics.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige led a star-studded panel featuring directors Anthony and Joe Russo alongside cast members including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman and Hayley Atwell, who confirmed she will return as Peggy Carter.
Audience members were each given a Doctor Doom mask and cloak, with Downey Jr. encouraging fans to wear them as he addressed the crowd in character.
"It isn't easy being green," he joked.
The presentation also included surprise appearances from Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher, and Ryan Reynolds, who reprises his role as Deadpool.
Avengers: Doomsday is due to be released on 18 December, setting up a high-profile box office clash with Dune 3. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.
Marvel is also expected to feature prominently at Disney's D23 convention, which takes place in Anaheim, California, from 14 to 16 August 2026.
