Pezeshkian hails Iran-Azerbaijan ties ahead of visit to Baku

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has praised the strong cultural and historical bonds between Iran and Azerbaijan, expressing optimism for deeper cooperation ahead of his upcoming official visit to Baku.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized the enduring friendship between Iran and Azerbaijan, describing the two nations as “members of a single body” during a coordination meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, held in preparation for his forthcoming visit to Baku.

Pezeshkian highlighted the shared cultural, religious, and historical ties that link the people of both countries, saying these commonalities provide a solid foundation for strengthened relations. “People living on both sides of the border share broad mutual interests, rooted in thousands of years of deep friendship and common affinity,” he said.

Despite recent challenges and occasional misunderstandings, the president expressed confidence in the future of bilateral relations, noting that Iran and Azerbaijan possess “vast, profound, and diverse” potential for cooperation. He stated that the ongoing efforts to restore and enhance ties will soon lead to “a swift and meaningful enhancement in the level of relations and cooperation.”

Pezeshkian also said he hopes the visit to Azerbaijan will act as a catalyst for expanding engagement across various sectors, including economy, trade, culture, tourism, and politics. He noted that consultations and groundwork on both sides are already paving the way for stronger collaboration between governments, businesses, and the wider public.

The visit marks a significant moment in Iran-Azerbaijan relations, as both countries aim to turn a page and deepen their strategic partnership in the region.
