Colombia begins process to join BRICS bank
Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on May 16 that his country has started the process of joining the New Development Bank of BRICS.
A trilateral meeting between the representatives of the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia was held in Tbilisi, where the sides discussed prospects for regional stability and cooperation.
The information was shared by the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was opened with a welcoming speech by Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili. In her remarks, she highlighted the strategic importance of the South Caucasus region, emphasizing its potential and the prospects for new formats of cooperation.
The minister noted that holding such a trilateral meeting reflects Georgia’s sincere commitment to fostering regional cooperation and identifying shared interests.
Bochorishvili underlined that the South Caucasus is a region of strategic significance and that trilateral cooperation is crucial for its future.
According to the statement issued by the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the closed-door meeting aims to explore mutually beneficial areas of cooperation that can contribute to the region’s prosperity, stability, and sustainable development. The parties are expected to share their views and positions on issues of common interest.
The ministry emphasized that this meeting does not contradict or seek to replace any existing formats of cooperation. Rather, it is a demonstration of the three neighboring countries’ willingness to engage in constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue.
It is worth noting that prior to the meeting, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili held consultations with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. It was during these consultations that the initiative for a trilateral meeting was proposed.
Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia told journalists that the meeting would focus on exploring the possibilities and directions of trilateral cooperation:
“This meeting is important in terms of identifying potential areas that could lay the groundwork for a broader cooperation process between the three countries. Possible joint initiatives and topics of shared interest will be discussed in a trilateral format. The goal is to enable the countries of the region to develop common approaches to various issues.”
