Germany has approved a major arms deal with Türkiye for the first time in years.
Berlin's Federal Security Council authorized the sale, valued at $368 million, which includes 100 anti-aircraft missiles and materials to modernize Turkish submarines and frigates.
The package features 28 SeaHake torpedoes from Thyssenkrupp's naval division and parts for Turkish U209 submarines, corvettes, and frigates. This comes as Türkiye seeks to buy 20 Eurofighter jets, worth $5.6 billion, though the deal has faced delays due to opposition within Germany's government.
While Germany has been hesitant about the Eurofighter sale due to Türkiye’s gas drilling in the eastern Mediterranean, Ankara’s purchase of F-16s from the U.S. has moved forward, with U.S. Congress recently approving a deal for 40 new jets and upgrades to 79 existing ones.
