Earthquake with a 5.7 magnitude struck in Russia, tremors felt across Azerbaijan

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck 50 km north-northwest of Derbent, Russia, at 00:33 local time Wednesday morning, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) . The quake’s epicentre was at a depth of 11 km.

The Republican Seismological Service Centre under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) reported that the earthquake in Dagestan had an epicentre depth of 66 km. The tremor was felt at a level of 3-4 on the local intensity scale.

The natural event was also felt across several regions and cities in Azerbaijan, including Quba, Qusar, Khinalig, Baku, Sumqayit, Khankendi, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Shabran, Ganja, Nabran, Oguz, and Khachmaz.

No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
