A total of 4,306 prisoners of war (POWs) have been returned to Ukraine, and efforts are ongoing to bring back every remaining captive, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.
"For more than three years—almost the entire duration of this war—our Coordination Headquarters has been working tirelessly, along with all relevant services, to bring back prisoners of war. Over 4,000 people have already been returned—4,306 in total. And we will bring everyone back," Zelenskyy said at the Coordination Headquarters conference on the treatment of prisoners of war, titled "Hope, Struggle, Return – Three Years."
He also noted that when Ukraine engages in discussions with the United States and other partners on ending the war, the release of prisoners is considered one of the first steps.
The President expressed gratitude to those who keep the issue of prisoners of war in the public eye, as well as to the collaborative efforts of the President’s Office, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman, and all others involved in securing the return of Ukrainian captives.
