The defence ministers of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia met in Shusha for their 13th trilateral meeting, with talks focused on regional security, defence cooperation and strengthening ties.
The meeting brought together Azerbaijani Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, Türkiye’s National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler and Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani.
Opening the talks, Hasanov welcomed his counterparts and stressed the importance of maintaining high-level political relations among Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia.
He said the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye trilateral format has developed into an established regional cooperation mechanism, contributing to peace, security and stability while potentially providing a model for broader regional cooperation.
The ministers exchanged views on emerging security challenges and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address factors that could threaten regional stability.
They also emphasised the role of mutual trust and cooperation in supporting the well-being and security of people across all three countries.
The ministers highlighted exercises including “Eternity” and “Caucasus Eagle” as important platforms for strengthening military cooperation, sharing experience and improving the defence capabilities of their armed forces.
They expressed their intention to broaden trilateral defence cooperation, saying stronger coordination could help promote peace, stability and security across the region.
The discussions also covered cooperation across several fields, including military and military-technical cooperation, military education and military medicine.
The Azerbaijani and Georgian defence ministers conveyed their condolences to their Turkish counterpart over the servicemen killed in a plane crash and expressed solidarity with Türkiye and the Turkish people.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the three sides signed a protocol reflecting the outcome of the talks.
The ministers later held a press conference, where Hasanov described the meetings as useful and expressed satisfaction with the pace of cooperation between Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia.
He said the three countries planned to further expand and deepen their defence ties.
