President of the United States of America Donald Trump has sent a letter of gratitude to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Expressing gratitude to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Pashinyan for the joint letter advancing his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, President Donald Trump said: “I am deeply appreciative of your kind recognition, which inspires us to sustain our important mission.”

“As President of the United States, I remain committed to ending conflicts across the globe and to securing peace and prosperity for all people."

"With your ongoing partnership, we will achieve the impossible. Thank you, again, for your continued support,” President Donald Trump added.

How Nobel nominations work

The Nobel Peace Prize, awarded annually in Oslo, recognises individuals or organisations that have made significant contributions to peace, conflict resolution or humanitarian advancement. While the Norwegian Nobel Committee does not publicly confirm nominees, nominators themselves may disclose their submissions.

It is not unusual for political leaders to receive nominations; past nominees have included sitting and former presidents, peace negotiators and international organisations. A nomination, however, does not imply endorsement by the Nobel Committee, nor does it indicate the likelihood of winning.

Donald Trump has previously been nominated by various political figures for his administration’s role in several diplomacy initiatives, including agreements between Israel and several Arab states, known collectively as the Abraham Accords. His supporters have often framed those deals as a foreign-policy achievement with relevance to the Peace Prize.
