Preliminary results from Georgia’s Central Election Commission show the ruling Georgian Dream party leading in the 4 October municipal elections, including in the Tbilisi mayoral race.

According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission (CEC), Georgian Dream candidate Kakha Kaladze has received 71.56% of the vote in the Tbilisi mayoral election, with nearly all precincts counted. His closest challengers are Irakli Kacharava with 12.46% and Irakli Chikhladze with 7.53%.

In the proportional vote for the Tbilisi City Council, Georgian Dream holds 71.1%, followed by Strong Georgia-LeLo with 10.05% and Pine Cone with 7.49%. Smaller parties, including Conservatives for Georgia, Free Georgia, and Homeland, Language, Faith, have received single-digit shares.

Nationwide, Georgian Dream is ahead with around 69.8% of the vote based on processed precinct data, while opposition parties remain below 10%. The CEC reported that more than 97% of precincts in Tbilisi and nearly 73% nationwide have submitted results, noting that figures remain preliminary until all protocols are verified.

The elections took place amid a partial opposition boycott and large demonstrations in Tbilisi. Thousands gathered on Liberty Square, led by civic groups and opposition movements calling for political change.

Later in the evening, some demonstrators attempted to move toward the presidential palace, prompting police to increase security around the area. Riot police dispersed parts of the crowd using water cannons and tear gas after protesters tried to move through barricades. The Interior Ministry urged participants to comply with police instructions, while Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the voting process was proceeding as planned and that preliminary results indicated strong support for the ruling party.

Traffic restrictions remain in parts of central Tbilisi following the overnight events.
