Opportunities to initiate investment partnerships and expand energy cooperation were discussed during the 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Co-chaired by Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, and Nokerguly Atagulyev, Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers, the joint commission meeting was held in Baku on 28 July.

"The strengthening of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan offers significant potential for the dynamic development of our economic relations," stated Jabarov in a post on his official X page.

By highlighting the positive outcomes of their joint efforts, the sides explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation and mutual investment across various sectors, including business, trade, energy, transport, industry, and agriculture," he added.

The meeting highlighted opportunities to strengthen partnerships in trade, industrial parks, transport, business, agriculture, and within the Alat Free Economic Zone.

The Turkmen delegation was briefed on Azerbaijan’s growing economic indicators, its favourable business and investment environment, and its transport and logistics infrastructure capabilities. It was particularly noted that the transit cargo volume between the two countries has shown steady growth in recent years—exceeding two million tons last year and reaching one million tons in the first half of this year.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on revitalizing the East–West transport corridor and enhancing the efficiency of the Middle Corridor, as well as the prospects for the Zangezur Corridor, were key topics of focus at the Joint Commission.

Turkmen investors were encouraged to engage in active cooperation.

Currently, 75 companies with Turkmen investments operate in Azerbaijan across sectors such as industry, transport, construction, trade, and services.
