Tajikistan and China open joint biodiversity lab in Dushanbe

Tajikistan and China launched a joint biodiversity lab in Dushanbe on July 21, aiming to advance ecological research and sustainable resource use across Central Asia under the Belt and Road Initiative.

A new joint laboratory dedicated to biodiversity conservation and sustainable use was inaugurated on July 21 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The facility is based at the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia, operating under the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

Backed by the Belt and Road Initiative, the lab is designed to become a regional hub for environmental innovation. It will focus on developing key technologies for environmental protection and sustainable biological resource management.

At the opening ceremony, officials highlighted the lab’s role as a high-level international platform for scientific and technological collaboration. Experts from other Central Asian countries are expected to participate in its research programmes, supporting broader goals of regional sustainability and environmental resilience.
