At least seven people were killed and several others injured after two roadside bombs exploded in quick succession in northwest Pakistan on Saturday (20 June), according to local police.
The blasts took place in Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near North Waziristan and close to the Afghan border.
Police said the first bomb targeted a passenger van travelling along a local road.
District police chief Yasir Afridi said five people were killed and three others injured when the vehicle was struck by the explosion.
The attack left a scene of devastation, with local residents rushing to help the victims and transport the wounded to hospital.
"The first explosion struck a passenger van, killing five people and injuring three others," Afridi told reporters.
Moments later, a second bomb exploded as people gathered at the scene and loaded casualties into ambulances.
At least two more people were killed in the second blast, which police said may have targeted those involved in the rescue effort.
Several others were reported injured, although authorities have not yet released a full casualty figure.
