Israeli forces have detained several individuals in southern Syria suspected of terrorist activity following raids targeting weapons storage sites.
Israeli forces have detained several individuals in southern Syria suspected of terrorist activity, the military said on Sunday, as part of ongoing operations to secure the border regions.
According to an official statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), troops from the 210th Division, including the 3rd Brigade, remain on high alert across southern Syria, from Mount Hermon in the north to the border triangle with Jordan and Syria in the south.
The IDF said that over the past week, forces conducted a series of raids on what were described as weapons storage locations in the area. During these operations, several individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities were detained and transferred into Israel for further questioning.
Images released by the IDF showed Brigadier General Yair Peli, commander of the 210th Division, observing the operations in the field. The military did not provide details on the identities of those detained or the specific groups they were believed to be affiliated with.
Israel has previously carried out airstrikes and ground operations in southern Syria, citing concerns over the presence of Iranian-backed forces and attempts to transfer advanced weaponry to groups hostile to Israel. The latest operations appear to form part of what Israeli officials describe as their ongoing efforts to prevent attacks along the northern borders.
The IDF added that its units continue to operate in the region to "maintain security and prevent the establishment of terrorist infrastructure near Israeli territory."
