Iran nuclear talks canceled as President Pezeshkian halts negotiations

The latest round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, scheduled for Sunday in Muscat, have been canceled. This development follows Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's explicit statement that Tehran refuses to negotiate as long as Israeli attacks persist.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi confirmed the cancellation on X on Saturday, noting Oman's role as mediator for these discussions. President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's firm stance: the nation will not alter its position regarding its nuclear program, and no negotiations will take place while Israel's offensive continues.

The cancellation occurs after a sweeping Israeli air offensive against Iran launched a day prior. These operations reportedly resulted in the deaths of commanders and scientists and targeted nuclear sites, with Israel stating its aim to prevent Iran from developing an atomic weapon. A senior official in U.S. President Donald Trump's administration confirmed the talks' cancellation but emphasized Washington's continued commitment to negotiations, expressing hope for Iran's swift return to the table.
