Today Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is hosting a ministerial meeting of the Gaza Contact Group in Antalya. The meeting is attended by foreign ministers from Bahrain, Indonesia, Palestine, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha and representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Ireland, Spain, Norway, Slovenia, China, Russia, and the EU are expected to participate.
Established by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, the Contact Group focuses on a “two-state solution and lasting peace in the Middle East” meeting, according to media reports.
According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan will emphasize that he two-state solution is the only viable option, allowing Palestinians to live in their homeland and enabling Palestinians and Israelis to live peacefully side by side.
Turkish Foreign Minister will urge committee to intensify efforts toward achieving a lasting ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees and ensuring full humanitarian access to Gaza. He is expected to reiterate support for Egypt and Qatar’s efforts to mediate a comprehensive agreement.
At the last meeting, the group reaffirmed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory and firmly rejected any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their homeland. The group emphasized the urgent need for joint efforts within the Muslim and Arab world to bring an immediate end to the war in Gaza, advance the two-state solution, and recognize the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
