A train crashed into a minibus that was crossing the tracks at an unauthorised location in northern Egypt on Thursday, leaving at least eight people dead and 12 others injured, according to AP, citing the Egyptian government.
The accident happened in Ismailia, a province along the Suez Canal, the health ministry confirmed. Emergency services dispatched more than a dozen ambulances to the site.
Egypt’s railway authority stated that the passenger train was following its usual route when the minibus attempted to cross at a non-designated point.
Local media reported that the victims, including several children, were taken to East Qantara Central Hospital, with one child in critical condition.
