Iran says it is progressing with the reconstruction of civilian areas, including residential and industrial units, that were bombed in Israeli-U.S. attacks.

The Governor General of Markazi Province, Mehdi Zandiyeh-Vakili, held a press conference on Thursday in which he showed journalists some of the reconstruction efforts taking place.

“The residential and industrial units destroyed in the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran are largely reconstructed by private and public funding,” he said.

He added that 3,000 residential units in the province were attacked in the war stressing that none of them were used for defence purposes.

“Out of 200 people who were killed in the 2025 and 2026 wars, 90 per cent were civilians,” with more than half of them women and children.”

According to the provincial governor, 233 industrial units were also attacked, including a small number of military facilities.

His remarks were made during a foreign media tour to the province’s industrial units as well as civilian areas targeted in the war.

When asked about Markazi Province’s Khondab heavy-water nuclear reactor that was bombed in war, Zandiyeh-Vakili said, “it was not active when it was attacked and fortunately, there was not a risk of radiation”.

Iranian officials condemned the strike on the province’s nuclear facility in 2026, saying “it was attacked despite being monitored under UN verification regime”.
