Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend the inaugural meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” in Washington on Thursday, representing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry has said.
Diplomatic sources said Fidan is expected to emphasise the need for continued efforts to resolve the situation in Gaza and to reiterate Türkiye’s support for initiatives aimed at achieving a lasting settlement.
He is also expected to call on Israel to end ceasefire violations and halt practices that obstruct the uninterrupted and adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The sources added that Fidan will reaffirm Türkiye’s readiness to continue providing humanitarian assistance and to contribute to reconstruction efforts.
The minister is further expected to reiterate Ankara’s willingness to participate in international mechanisms to safeguard the rights and security of Palestinians in Gaza and to voice support for a two-state solution.
The Board of Peace was established as part of broader efforts to promote a peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip and advance wider peacemaking initiatives. Representatives from 19 countries signed its charter on 22 January on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Washington has said that additional states have since joined the initiative.
The first meeting is scheduled to take place at leaders’ level in Washington on 19 February.
Earlier, President Erdoğan said on his return flight from Ethiopia that Türkiye had received an invitation to the meeting and that Fidan would attend on his behalf. According to a readout from his office, Erdoğan expressed hope that the Board of Peace would help secure lasting stability, a ceasefire and, ultimately, peace in Gaza.
