President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is visiting the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday, 17 December, as the two countries seek to further strengthen their partnership.
During the visit, President Aliyev met Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, with discussions focusing on trade, energy and broader economic cooperation.
The talks reflected the depth of bilateral ties and underscored the wider international context of the visit.
Following their meeting, the two leaders attended the opening ceremony of the Games of the Future 2025 on Friday, an annual international phygital sports tournament that combines physical and digital competition.
The visit builds on a long history of close relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE, shaped by agreements and joint projects, particularly in the energy and renewable sectors.
In recent years, this cooperation has evolved into a strategic partnership, with an emphasis on expanding trade, investment and regional collaboration.
The two presidents last met in October in Azerbaijan, where they toured the Sangachal Terminal, a major natural gas processing and oil production facility.
During those talks, they discussed cooperation across a range of areas, including energy, infrastructure and sustainable development.
Both countries say they share a commitment to sustainable development, highlighted by the UAE’s involvement in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy initiatives, including the Garadagh Solar Power Plant.
