Israel strikes Houthi targets in Sanaa and Al-Jawf

Israel has launched new airstrikes on Sanaa and al-Jawf, targeting Houthi military sites in retaliation for recent attacks on its territory.

Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday struck multiple targets in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and the northern province of al-Jawf, marking an escalation in the long-running confrontation between Israel and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

According to the Israeli military, the operation targeted Houthi military camps, the group’s propaganda department, and a major fuel depot. Witnesses also reported strikes on the Houthi defence ministry and a command centre located between two mountains on the outskirts of Sanaa.

Houthi media confirmed casualties, saying several people had been killed or wounded, though the extent of the damage remains unclear.

The strike follows a separate Israeli attack on 30 August that killed the prime minister of the Houthi-run government along with several ministers - the first assault to directly target the group’s senior leadership.

"The strikes were carried out in response to attacks led by the Houthi terror regime against the State of Israel, during which unmanned aerial vehicles and surface-to-surface missiles were launched toward Israeli territory," the IDF said in a statement.

The Houthis have repeatedly targeted shipping lanes in the Red Sea and fired missiles towards Israel in what they claim is solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Most of those projectiles have been intercepted by Israeli or allied defences.

This latest Israeli operation is part of what officials call "Operation Ringing Bells," aimed at degrading the Houthis’ ability to carry out future strikes.
