Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi has been appointed as special representative on Caspian Sea issue.
The Foreign Ministry’s Secretariat for Caspian Sea Affairs has been moved to the Department of Law and International Relations, headed by Kazem Gharibabadi—making him the representative of Iran on this issue.
Last week, Moscow hosted the tenth meeting of the High-Level Working Group on the Caspian Sea (HLWG), with the participation of special representatives from the five Caspian littoral states.
The meeting addressed a range of Caspian Sea-related issues, including methods for delineating baselines, environmental and economic concerns, the sea’s declining water level, matters related to the Environmental Convention’s secretariat, and upcoming five-party meetings to institutionalize cooperation.
Next meeting will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
