The heads of intelligence agencies from Central Asian countries held their first-ever meeting in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
The event was organized as part of Uzbekistan's chairmanship in the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Presidents of Central Asian states.
At the opening of the event, a message from Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was delivered to the participants. The message emphasized that dialogue among the heads of intelligence agencies from Central Asian countries would contribute to the development of joint approaches and effective mechanisms for ensuring regional security.
During the meeting, the primary focus was on developing unified approaches to assessing contemporary security threats and challenges facing the Central Asian countries, as well as enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation among intelligence agencies in neutralizing these threats.
The participants discussed key regional security issues, including joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, the illegal drug and arms trade, transnational crime, and ensuring information and cybersecurity, along with other areas of mutual interest.
"The event marked a significant milestone in the development of cooperation between Central Asian countries in the field of security and laid the groundwork for regular meetings of intelligence agency heads aimed at further strengthening peace and stability in the region," - an official statement reads.
