On April 11, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will participate in the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the 8th meeting of Russian and Central Asian foreign ministers—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Both events will be hosted in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will exchange views on current international and regional issues and discuss priority spheres of integration cooperation within the CIS this year.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the meeting will also focus on preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in the CIS member states and other issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as ways to strengthen border security.
Later tomorrow, Lavrov will attend the 8th meeting of the foreign ministers of Russian and Central Asian states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Zakharova said that the ministers will discuss a broad range of political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian matters of concern for Russia and Central Asian states in the six-party format.
The ministers will also exchange views on key international issues, focusing on coordinating efforts to enhance security and stability in Central Asia.
