A powerful snowstorm has crippled parts of Kazakhstan, forcing the closure of intercity roads and prompting ongoing rescue efforts for stranded travelers.
The storm has caused major disruptions, particularly in the northern and eastern regions, including the capital, Astana.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that all routes out of the capital remain blocked due to extreme weather. Over the past 48 hours, rescue teams have assisted 318 individuals, including 62 children, and retrieved 38 vehicles stuck in heavy snow, strong winds, and low visibility.
In response to the hazardous conditions, additional train services have been introduced to aid those affected. Authorities have urged residents to avoid long-distance travel until the situation improves.
Meanwhile, snow removal efforts continue in Astana, where traffic has been severely impacted. Several flights at Astana International Airport have also been delayed due to the ongoing storm.
