Uzbekistan has witnessed a significant rise in foreign exchange activity between banks and the public during the first half of 2025, according to media reports on Friday.

Data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan shows that banks purchased 9.1 billion U.S. dollars in foreign currency from individuals during this period, marking a 27% year-on-year increase.

Meanwhile, banks sold 5.4 billion dollars in foreign currency to individuals, representing an 18% rise compared to the same period in 2024.

The surge in foreign exchange activity highlights growing demand for foreign currency among the Uzbek population, as well as increased access to banking services.

In 2024, the total volume of foreign exchange transactions between banks and individuals reached 25.5 billion dollars. Based on the current pace, the 2025 figure may surpass last year’s total.
