American rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, remains scheduled to perform his first major concert in Kazakhstan on 14 August at Almaty's Central Stadium, despite a dispute over the venue that delayed ticket sales.
The performance is expected to form part of The Ye Live Concert Tour in support of his twelfth studio album, Bully, and would mark his first public concert in Kazakhstan.
The concert was announced on 17 July, with a presale initially scheduled for 20–21 July.
On 20 July, organisers postponed ticket sales by one day after objections from FC Kairat, which plays its home matches at Central Stadium. Sales are now due to begin on 21 July at 12:00 p.m. local time.
Organisers said only the ticket sale had been delayed and that both the venue and the 14 August concert date remain unchanged while discussions with the club continue.
FC Kairat said the concert date had not been coordinated with the club.
"FC Kairat officially informs that the announced event date was not coordinated by the concert organisers with the club, which plays its home matches at the Central Stadium and continues its participation in European club tournaments," the club said in a statement.
It added: "According to the Kazakhstan Premier League calendar, FC Kairat is scheduled to play home matches of the Kazakhstan Championship at the Central Stadium on August 8 and 15. Furthermore, a potential home match in European competition could take place at the stadium between August 11 and 13."
The club warned that installing and removing the concert stage could affect the pitch and the stadium's readiness for official matches, describing the announcement of the venue as premature until all approvals have been completed.
Born Kanye Omari West in 1977, Ye legally changed his name in 2021 after using the nickname for several years.
A 24-time Grammy Award winner, the U.S. rapper is one of the world's best-selling music artists, known for albums including The College Dropout, Graduation and Donda. He also founded the Yeezy fashion brand, although several business partnerships ended following his antisemitic remarks in 2022.
Although the Almaty concert has yet to appear on Ye's official tour schedule, it has been confirmed by local organisers and the Almaty city administration.
For now, the concert remains scheduled for 14 August, with ticket sales expected to begin on 21 July.
An agreement between Iran and the U.S. to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is expected "soon," a U.S. official has said. The deal would result in the resumption of commercial shipping through the sea passage and the lifting of an American naval blockade on Iranian ports.
A deal on a new route for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is "very close," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said, while warning that the reopening of the waterway depends on the U.S. meeting other conditions, including paying compensation to Iran.
