Warner Bros (WBD.O) has reached an agreement with Jinjiang International to develop a "Harry Potter Studio Tour" in Shanghai, the Chinese company announced on Wednesday.
In a social media post, Jinjiang stated that the planned attraction would offer visitors a behind-the-scenes experience of the Harry Potter films, recreating iconic scenes. The studio tour is expected to span over 53,000 square metres.
The project will form part of a large-scale redevelopment of a Shanghai theme park operated by Jinjiang and is scheduled to open in 2027. However, the plans remain subject to regulatory approval.
If approved, this would be Warner Bros' third "Harry Potter Studio Tour" globally, following existing locations in London and Tokyo.
The Harry Potter franchise enjoys widespread popularity in China, where foreign films account for a relatively small share of the box office due to strict quotas and a growing focus on domestic productions.
Additionally, Universal Studios Beijing includes "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter," featuring themed rides and attractions. Last year, all eight Harry Potter films were re-released in Chinese cinemas.
