Mexico City launched the 20th edition of its annual Torta Fair on Wednesday, unveiling what organisers say is the world’s largest torta, measuring 90 metres long and weighing more than one ton.
The colossal torta was created by more than 90 national and international vendors, who used more than 50 specially selected ingredients to bring the massive sandwich to life.
This year’s event marks the fair’s milestone 20th edition, continuing a tradition that has produced a total of 1,153 metres of giant torta since it began.
Over the five-day festival, attendees can taste a wide variety of tortas, ranging from traditional Mexican fillings to more adventurous options, including insects and wild boar.
In addition to the culinary experience, the fair features live performances from more than 50 artists, adding a lively cultural dimension to the celebration.
Organisers say the festival not only highlights Mexican gastronomy but also encourages creativity and experimentation with the classic torta.
The event has become a major attraction for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique blend of food, entertainment, and cultural festivities in the heart of Mexico City.
