penAI announced on Tuesday that its deep research tool - a web browsing agent designed to generate comprehensive research reports - will now be available to all paying ChatGPT users.

This strategic rollout expands access beyond the $200-a-month ChatGPT Pro tier, where the feature was previously exclusive.

Under the new update, ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers will receive 10 deep research queries per month. Meanwhile, existing ChatGPT Pro users will see an increase in their allowance from 100 to 120 deep research queries each month. The deep research tool is intended to help users compile thorough reports by browsing the web and synthesizing detailed information.

This move comes as OpenAI, Google, and Perplexity vie to capture a larger share of the growing market for advanced AI research tools. Notably, Google recently launched its own deep research agent to all Gemini Advanced users, intensifying competition in the space. Tech companies are betting that these deep research capabilities will help justify the premium cost of their AI subscriptions by demonstrating tangible value to users.

“While we are excited to roll out deep research to a broader audience, we also recognize the need to further test how these agents can be used to effectively support users in making well-informed decisions,” an OpenAI representative said.

The expanded access to deep research is part of OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to refine its product offerings and ensure that subscribers have the tools they need for complex information gathering and analysis. As the market for AI-driven research continues to evolve, users can expect more innovative features aimed at streamlining access to high-quality information across various professional and academic domains.
