U.S. Senate Republicans are pushing forward with President Donald Trump’s major tax-and-spending bill, aiming to begin debate this weekend on a sweeping measure that could reshape fiscal policy and deepen the national debt.

Senate Republicans are set to vote Saturday to begin debate on President Trump’s 940-page “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a sweeping tax-cut and spending proposal that extends the 2017 tax cuts, boosts military and border security funding, and raises the debt ceiling.

The bill, released late Friday, could add $3 trillion to the national debt but is touted by the White House as reducing the annual deficit by $1.4 trillion.

Democrats oppose the bill, citing deep cuts to Medicaid, food aid, and clean energy programs, while Republicans struggle to agree on offsetting costs. A final Senate vote is expected early next week, with House approval likely to follow.
