King Charles will welcome U.S. President Donald Trump for a state visit later this year, marking the president’s second official visit to the U.K. under royal invitation.
Trump accepted the monarch’s invitation in February, making him the first modern-era elected leader to receive two state visits from a British sovereign.
While the official date has not yet been announced, the upcoming event will highlight the enduring ties between the United Kingdom and the United States and will feature traditional royal ceremonies, including a carriage procession through central London and a formal state banquet.
According to a Palace aide, “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year.” Preparations began last week when the ‘Manu Regia’—the formal royal invitation—was delivered to the White House.
