At least 71 people have been killed and 20 injured in a terror attack on a village in Niger’s Tillaberi region, local media reported.
The attack took place in Manda village, where unidentified gunmen targeted worshippers gathered in a mosque courtyard shortly after prayers.
According to reports, the assailants opened fire on the crowd, causing mass casualties. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This is the second major mosque attack in Tillaberi this year. In March, 44 people were killed during a Friday prayer assault in Fambita village.
Tillaberi lies near the so-called "tri-border area" shared by Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, a region that has faced frequent attacks by armed groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS since 2017.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement.
