US urges caution for citizens in Middle East and North Africa

The US State Department has advised its citizens in the Middle East and North Africa to exercise "increased caution." The recommendation is due to rising regional tensions, the State Department said.

The department’s statement noted, “Historically, such tensions have led to travel disruptions and heightened security concerns for US citizens in the region.”

On Wednesday, the US announced voluntary departures for non-essential personnel and military families from certain locations in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump also stated that the evacuation of American citizens is planned because some regional areas “could become dangerous places.”
