European foreign ministers agreed to increase pressure on Russia by imposing new sanctions targeting its energy and banking sectors amid ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Foreign ministers from major European countries—including France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Britain, and the EU—met in Rome to discuss escalating measures against Russia. Joined by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and a Ukrainian representative, the ministers reaffirmed their readiness to impose additional sanctions to weaken Moscow’s war effort.

The statement highlighted plans to target Russia’s energy and banking sectors and maintain frozen Russian sovereign assets until the aggression ends and reparations are paid. This meeting comes amid intensifying Russian attacks on Ukraine and follows inconclusive peace talks held earlier in Istanbul. The ministers also expressed willingness to enhance defence cooperation with Ukraine, aiming to provide stronger support as the conflict continues.
