Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday officially declared open the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, marking the start of the nation’s premier multi-sport event that brings together thousands of athletes from across the country.

The combination of traditional artistry and futuristic flair captivated the audience and set an energetic tone for the games ahead.
In his opening remarks, President Xi highlighted the importance of sports in strengthening national unity, improving public health, and fostering a spirit of perseverance and excellence. He emphasized that the National Games serve not only as a platform for athletic competition but also as a celebration of the country’s progress in building a “strong sports nation.”
More than 12,000 athletes from all 31 provincial-level regions, the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, and the People’s Liberation Army are expected to compete in this edition of the Games. Events will range from athletics and swimming to new additions such as e-sports and breakdancing, reflecting changing interests and youth participation in sports.
This year’s National Games are co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao and the first time the event is jointly organized by the three regions, symbolizing deeper integration within the Greater Bay Area.
