South Korea is finalizing its biggest-ever arms export deal, with 180 K2 tanks set to be delivered to Poland under a $6 billion agreement.

South Korea is set to sign a US$6 billion deal to export additional K2 tanks to Poland, marking Seoul’s largest arms export contract to date.

The agreement is part of Poland’s broader effort to strengthen its military amid ongoing security concerns linked to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Under the deal, expected to be signed in late June, Poland will receive 180 K2 tanks. Of these, 117 will be produced by South Korean defence contractor Hyundai Rotem Co., while the remaining units will be built locally by Poland’s state-owned PGZ.

South Korea sees the deal as a foundation for a long-term military-industrial partnership, with both nations aiming to meet Europe’s growing demand for weapons.

The agreement was initially expected in late 2023 but was delayed due to political developments in both countries, including internal instability in South Korea after an aborted martial law attempt in December.
