US-Iran nuclear talks to resume June 12, Trump confirms

President Donald Trump announced on June 9 that a new round of negotiations between the United States and Iran over the nuclear agreement is scheduled for June 12.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump described the talks as challenging, praising the Iranian negotiators as “excellent.” He emphasized the high stakes, saying the alternative to reaching a deal could be “catastrophic.”

“They don’t want to give up what they have to give up,” Trump said, highlighting Iran’s ongoing interest in uranium enrichment.

Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagai underscored the importance of lifting US sanctions as a key factor for cooperation. Bagai also criticized recent efforts by the US Congress to impose additional sanctions, calling the moves contradictory.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” strategy on Iran has been put on hold. The focus is now shifting toward reviewing sanctions in the context of the nuclear negotiations.
