Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a series of decrees confirming sweeping changes in the military command, including the appointment of Mykhailo Drapatyi as the new commander of the Joint Forces.
Drapatyi stepped down as head of the Land Forces after a Russian missile strike killed 12 Ukrainian troops at a training center in Dnipropetrovsk.
Robert Brovdi will now lead Ukraine’s drone-focused Unmanned Systems Forces, replacing Vadym Sukharevskyi, who moves to command Operational Command East. Ihor Skybiuk has been dismissed as Air Assault Forces commander and replaced by Oleh Apostol. Skybiuk has been reassigned as deputy chief of Ukraine’s General Staff.
The decrees did not cite reasons, but Zelenskyy said in a video address that Drapatyi’s new role will allow him to focus entirely on frontline operations.
