The incident took place on Saturday in Boulder, Colorado, during a regular event held to raise awareness for Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

A man has been charged with murder after a violent attack at a rally in the U.S. left several people injured.

Police said 45-year-old Mohamed Soliman used petrol bombs and a homemade flamethrower to attack people taking part at the event in Boulder, Colorado.

The weekly meet, called “Run for Their Lives,” takes place in cities across the world to highlight the plight of hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack on Israel.

Two people were seriously hurt, and one remains in a critical condition. A total of eight people were taken to hospital with injuries ranging in severity, after being targeted by Soliman who was allegedly shouting "Free Palestine".

Soliman, from El Paso County, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. Police said he targeted the group and was arrested at the scene.

The FBI says it was a targeted "act of terrorism".

Authorities said Soliman had been living in the US illegally after overstaying a visa.
