Fidan’s trip to Moscow comes after Türkiye hosted the first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine after three years.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was received by Russian President Vladimir Putin as he arrived for a two-day trip to Moscow.

Details on what they have discussed has not been made public yet but according to sources close to the two countries, the latest developments in Syria and mediation in the Ukrainian war were discussed.

The visit aims to deepen cooperation between the two countries in key areas such as trade, energy, and tourism, while also addressing regional and international issues.

The meeting comes amid intensified efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine following historic talks between the two warring countries in Istanbul.

While no substantial progress was made for the resolution of the hostilities, Russia and Ukraine did strike a deal on a large prisoners-of-war exchange.

Mr Fidan's will be using this trip to emphasise Turkiye's commitment to achieving a lasting ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, as well as reaffirm his country's readiness to contribute as a mediator.
