Russia and Ukraine exchanged 307 military personnel each on Saturday, marking the second day of what is expected to become the largest prisoner swap since the war between the two countries began three years ago.
The exchange involves personnel from Ukraine’s army, State Border Service, and National Guard. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the process, emphasizing Ukraine’s commitment to bringing back every captive through continued cooperation with international partners.
On the Russian side, the Defense Ministry reported the return of 307 Russian servicemen from areas controlled by Kyiv on May 24, in accordance with the agreements signed in Istanbul on May 16. The released Russians are currently in Belarus, receiving necessary psychological and medical care before being transferred to Russia for further rehabilitation.
This exchange follows an earlier stage on May 23, when 390 individuals were exchanged — including 270 Russian servicemen and 120 civilians, with a reciprocal transfer of the same number of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians.
