Polish customs have detained 5 metric tons of Boeing aircraft tires intended for transport through Belarus to Russia, citing ongoing investigations related to EU sanctions.
Poland’s National Revenue Administration announced the detention of 5 metric tons of tires for civilian Boeing aircraft during a customs inspection in Koroszczyn.
Polish authorities have launched criminal fiscal proceedings for alleged customs misrepresentation regarding the shipment. Boeing has not issued a statement on the matter.
Russia's aviation sector continues to adapt to challenges posed by its reliance on foreign-manufactured planes and restricted access to parts and technical services due to international sanctions.
The tires are covered by European Union sanctions implemented in 2022 in connection with events involving Russia and Ukraine. Aircraft manufacturers, including Boeing and Airbus, have ceased providing parts, maintenance services, and technical support for Russian airlines as part of these measures.
