Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, his office announced. The cancer has been identified with a Gleason score of 9, which, according to Cancer Research UK, indicates highly abnormal cells that are likely to grow rapidly.
A statement from Biden's team explained that he had recently undergone a check-up after experiencing worsening urinary symptoms. Tests revealed a prostate nodule, and further evaluation on Friday confirmed the presence of prostate cancer. The disease has also spread to his bones.
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which doctors say offers hope for effective treatment. Biden and his family are currently consulting with medical experts to explore treatment options.
