White House halts G20 work over South Africa land dispute

The White House National Security Council has instructed U.S. government agencies to suspend all preparations for the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, according to The Washington Post.

Trump has raised concerns that the law allows the South African government to seize land from white farmers without compensation, claiming it unfairly targets white landowners. This controversy has sparked a broader debate over the treatment of Afrikaners, a white ethnic minority in the country.

The G20 summit, set for November in Johannesburg, is a major gathering of leaders from the world’s largest economies to address issues such as global finance, climate change, and trade. Trump’s stance on the land issue has also led to significant tension, exemplified by his executive order in February, which halted U.S. foreign aid to South Africa.
