Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump by phone about the U.S.-Ukraine minerals agreement after Ukraine’s Parliament ratified it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, according to Zelenskyy’s spokesperson, Serhiy Nikiforov. The press secretary did not disclose further details of the call.
Earlier that day, President Trump confirmed that he would speak with Zelenskyy about the Ukraine-U.S. minerals agreement after it was ratified by Ukraine’s Parliament. Trump spoke to reporters at the White House, noting, “We just concluded the rare earth deal with Ukraine. That’s been fully ratified and approved by their legislative branches, and so we appreciate that.”
The U.S.-Ukrainian Reconstruction Investment Fund agreement, signed on April 30, was ratified by Ukraine’s parliament on May 8. The agreement is aimed at fostering investment in Ukraine’s reconstruction and development, and it includes provisions related to rare earth minerals.
“I’ll be speaking with the president in a little while, a little bit later,” Trump added, further indicating the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two leaders.
